Glass pendant – engraved glass Kuaka/Godwit design

$84.00

This glass pendant has been shaped from coloured window glass into an Aotearoa/New Zealand pipi shell form, and hand engraved with a kuaka /godwit design. This motif is inspired by the beautiful kuaka/godwit, who spend the summers in the estuaries of Aotearoa, including here in the Ihutai Estuary in Ōtautahi/Christchurch, before departing on their long journey to Alaska where they nest and breed. They return to Aotearoa in the Spring, traveling 11 000 – 12 000 km from Alaska over an 8-9 day period, without rest (New Zealand Birds Online).

The shape of the pendant is evocative of the pipi shells found on beaches all around Aotearoa. The pendant measures approximately 8.5cm in length and 5 cm in height, and is suspended on hand-plaited cord. The cord measures approximately 50 cm; with the pendant designed to sit just below the collar bone. The cord fastens with a simple loop and toggle system; the toggle matching the glass of the pendant.

The glass has a sea-softened appearance.

The colours in the three featured photos are amber, light aqua and teal blue.

Please choose your colour and a brown, black or flaxen coloured cord in the boxes below.
