Glass bead necklace – carved four bird necklace

The birds on this necklace are carved from coloured window glass, tumbled for several days in a stone tumbler, knotted on to hand plaited black cord, and fastened with a matching glass toggle. The necklace measures an approximate length of 100 cm, and is designed to hang over the torso area. The birds depicted are tui, kereru/wood pigeon, piwakawaka/fantail and riroriro/grey warbler, all birds that live in our garden here in Titirangi, Aotearoa. The glass has a sea-softened appearance thanks to time spent in the stone tumbler.
